Not a good one. 2012 Chevy Malibu Scenario: No issues with the car since I purchased used last November 2014. Clean report. About a month back got off work and went out to car and it would not crank… turning over but not starting. After about 5 minutes cranked right up. About 3 days later, same thing happened… My dad tried to figure out what was going on but couldn’t because no warning lights and was running every time he was able to look at. He did use his personal diagnostic checker and nothing was coming up on it. At one point when it didn’t crank he was able to spray starter fluid in the carburetor and it would run for seconds until it used up the fluid. This time it was about 3 wks before it happened again and it would not crank for an entire day into the next. I had it towed to a garage (AutoTrends) in Gboro. It cranked once they got it there and they had to wait until next day when it wouldn’t crank again. They called and told me the ‘throttle position sensor’ was bad and that the entire throttle body assembly would have to be replaced. I agreed. $300+ Picked up car, drove home, drove to the YMCA, drove to the grocery store, came out with groceries and the car wouldn’t crank. It did about an hour later. Called them back and drove the car in to the garage next day. They had it another day and called to tell me my ‘fuel pump’ was bad and needed to be replaced. Another $500+ I had a discussion/debate with them at this time that the throttle part might not have been bad…. ??? They disagreed. I told them to go ahead and replace the ‘fuel pump’ because I had to have my car. Left the shop, went to gas station because they left me sitting on empty. Fuel warning started to beep as soon as I pulled out. Filled car up, got in and it would not crank. Called someone to come get me and car cranked before they got there. Furious at this point… and garage closed for the week-end. Called them 1st thing Monday morning at 7:30 am. They came to get the car and called me by noon to tell me that the ‘fuel pump connector’ was bad. You can imagine my reply. I questioned if the other two parts were really bad and argued that they charged me for parts that probably weren’t. At this point I’m out about $1,200 for towing, labor and parts. $800+ parts. Anyway, got the car back and it's finally running well. I am still really upset about the whole thing. They are telling me all 3 parts were bad and I don’t believe them but have no way to prove otherwise. I have called the Chevy dealer, NAPA, and some other reputable garages around Gboro and no one can test parts that are not on the car. I have my old parts but don’t know how to have them checked to see if they are bad. If they are bad then I have an issue with the Chevy manufacturer because the car was only 3 years old with $50k when this happened.
